BTEC DIP Medical: Unit 15 - Microbiological Techniques

This unit will introduce learners to the key concepts and techniques of microbiology, and provide them with the knowledge and skills to be able to work safely and competently in a microbiology laboratory. It is a highly practical unit involving the handling of live organisms, and learners will need to develop good aseptic techniques and risk assessment skills. Although the cultures used will be of very low risk, learners should always approach any microorganism with the respect and safety precautions one would afford a serious pathogen. It is also important that learners understand the reasons behind these procedures and are able to apply these ideas to new situations.
